The Master’s program in International Criminal Law is the first program to focus on international criminal law as a distinct field of legal study. This program is designed to equip the postgraduate candidates to deal with complex issues in law at both the national and international levels. Graduates in this program should be able to take up senior judicial posts and leadership in government departments and private sector where they will be instrumental in legal planning. Thus, this program is justified by the need to have highly qualified skills in the area of legal administration especially in International Criminal Law, Transitional Justice, Human rights and others.
Furthermore, the program will provide opportunities for local higher learning institutions to send their academic staff for training so that they can alleviate the shortage of lecturers. It is this spirit that the program is flexible enough to allow students a choice to go for one or duo specialization. In the former case, a student will study all five electives in the areas of specialization in International criminal law. This program prepares students for a career in international criminal law. Graduates will be singularly qualified to assume leadership roles in the world of international criminal tribunals such as ICC, national legal institutions and law firms, International Criminal Law academia and ministries such as that of foreign affairs and justice among others.
