UNILAK VC visit to China to cement cooperation

The University of Lay Adventists of Kigali and the Chinese Academy of sciences have agreed to extend their cooperation to exchanging faculty, staff, and students as well as develop opportunities of studying abroad.

This was agreed during a visit made by UNILAK delegates to three institutions in the People’s Republic of China, in December 2017.

The delegation composed of Dr. Jean Ngamije, the Vice Chancellor of UNILAK and Dr. Gabriel Habiyaremye, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies made a historical cooperation visit to the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, located in Beijing; Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Northwest A&F University and Xian University of Technology all located in Shaan-Xi Province.

The three day visit that run from December 17th to 20th was marked by bilateral meetings between UNILAK and each of the Chinese Institution separately and focused mainly on scientific collaboration and graduate education to be undertaken through the framework of the UNILAK XIEG/CAS Joint Research Center for Natural Resources and Environment in East Africa- Kigali.

A series of discussions was held on collaborative research programs or projects of mutual interest as well as exchange of scholarly publications and information.

Discussions of academic and administrative developments were also held, including co-sponsorship of symposia, seminars and conferences; cooperation in the development of education generally, including the possibility of offering joint programs; and pursuit of consulting and project opportunities

The visit particularly discussed on Vision for Collaborative Research in 2018 on study of Soil and Water Conservation and high yield efficient agriculture for mountain and hilly area in the upper reaches of Nile.

The visit by UNILAK delegation followed the respective Chinese Institutions visit to UNILAK last year in August where a joint symposium on soil and water conservation and high yield and efficiency agriculture in the headwater of Nile was organized at UNILAK on August 29, 2017. The Chinese visitors equally participated in the 2017 ICEED.
